Shades of Red for Summer 2012

Orange Red

    True Red

    Blue Red

With so many shades of reds, how can you tell which one is best for your skin tone?  Growing up I adored red lipstick, but could never figure out why it looked awful on me.If you are having the same problem I did, read over this and see which red best suits you.

Orange-Red lipstick is perfect for people with tan or olive skin.  It accentuates the gold in their skin, leaving a beautiful glow on the face.  If you wish to wear orange-red lipstick and your skin is on the paler side, find a shimmering bronze and lightly dust your cheeks, chin, and forehead.

A True-Red color looks best on people with whiter skin. Not only does this provide an amazing contrast, but it brings out any eye colour.  When applying the rest of the makup, be careful not have too bold of eyes and ummatching blush. Typically, a light coral color on the cheeks is perfect for bright red lips. This shade also looks  really good on women with darker skin, such as African Americans, Asians, or Hispanics.

Lastly, Blue-red.  Blue-red can be used on many people, as long as the rest of the makeup is kept light.  Because blue-red is dramatic and a darker form of red, it is best used with matte, natural looking eyeshadow and mascara.  Light, pink blush should be kept to minimum on a paler person. A deep plum should lightly be applied to a tanner person.
